Characters
Severin
Not so long ago — after playing pretty much the one Horde character since forever — I decided to take a WoW-seachange and re-roll Alliance. My original re-roll was Noxxul v2.0, a Draenei Death Knight. I’d never played a plate class before, and my past career with non-healing classes (Noxxul v1.0) wasn’t very illustrious. Still, I figured I’d give it a shot; if nothing else, doing all the lowbie Alliance content as a level 55 was a nice, easy way to tour the half of Azeroth I’d never really seen.
Noxxul got up into the 70s before paid race changes were announced, upon which time I decided to cave into fanservice and converted her into the male Night Elf Severin, mostly to make her, er, his end-game spaulders look more badass.
Severin is an ex-Druid, currently trying to adjust to his new un-life as a Death Knight, cut off from the forces of life he’d previously depended on. His companions on his quest to find his place in the word include his trusty ghoul (whomever that happens to be at the time) and a young, silent Netherdrake named Lux he rescued from the Dragonmaw clan in Outland. Severin could best be described by the words “cold” and “severe”, though he’s loyal to the Alliance and repentant for his time spent under the thrall of Arthas.
His favourite pastimes include obliterating cruelty from the face of Azeroth, restoring the balance of nature and completing every trivial fetch-and-carry quest in the game.
Ulfrun v2.0
Some time after hitting level 80 with Sev, I decided to take advantage of WoW’s then-new faction change service to move Ulfrun over to the Alliance (and also a new server; ouch). She also eventually made it to level 80, which means this is the first time in the entire history of WoW that I’ve had more than one character at the level cap. Go me.
Ulf’s favourite — and, in fact, only — pastime is slaughtering up Alliance in Battlegrounds.

Ulfrun v1.0
Ah, Ulfrun; my long-beloved main. Ulfrun was actually my second character after release. The first, Noxxul, I managed to get all the way to level 50 before realising I really hated playing a Rogue. Ulf was my second try, a Shaman — because I’d played one previously and enjoyed it — and a Troll because I thought they looked kinda cool in a gangly sort of way (plus my friend at the time already had an Orc Shaman).
The name itself is a kind of a pun; it’s taken from the name of a troll-wife in Norse mythology, and it literally translates to “wolf-rune”, though it sounds like “wolf-run” (like, Ghost Wolf, get it, get it). Ulf bravely levelled 1 through 60 as Resto, raided for a while, then respecced to Enhancement for Burning Crusade and pretty much hasn’t looked back.
Lore-wise, Ulf is a Northrend native, from one of the smaller tribes of ice trolls along the coast. Her father went missing after signing on as a mercenary with the expedition lead by Muradin Bronzebeard and Arthas Menethil that sought to track down the cursed Frostmourne. Ulfrun’s mother, wisely sensing that Very Bad Things were on the horizon, escaped Northrend and eventually wound up in Kalimdor, where they were absorbed into the Darkspear Tribe and thus the New Horde. As a sign of dedication to their new life, Ulfrun took up the path of the shaman under the tutelage of the old Tauren, One-eye.
Ulfrun’s favourite pastimes include fishing, slaughtering Alliance in Alterac Valley, and hanging around major cities in Level 1 gear. Generally not terribly adverse to the Alliance, she harbours a special hatred for Draenei Shaman (the traitors).
The Rest…
And then there are the alts. I’m terrible at alts; I usually get through a mere handful of levels on each when the sheer, daunting task of simply getting them to the same approximate point in-game as Ulfrun terrifies me. Still, I have a go every now and again.
In order of appearance, Ixxis is my Blood Elf Mage. There’s not much to say about him other than I figured I’d try something different for a change. Leikn is my somewhat unfortunately-named Tauren Druid. Her name actually means “bug-bear” which, like Ulfrun, makes it a kind of bad Old Norse pun. Loki, my Blood Elf Priest, just goes to prove that I like both healers and silver hair. Tourne, my Orc Hunter, ran all the way to the Night Elf starting area (yes, the level one starting area) in order to get a spotted nightsabre pet. Sigyn is a Dwarf Paladin who can’t decide on a spec. Yareth v2 is a Druid who is scheduled to be re-rolled Worgen as of Cataclysm. And finally Vesper, my highest level alt, an Undead Warlock named after my cat.
